How many wrist joints are there?

Published in Anatomy 1 min read

There are three main joints in the wrist. These joints contribute to the wrist's stability and provide a wide range of movement for the hand.

  • Radiocarpal joint: This joint is where the radius, one of the forearm bones, connects with the first row of wrist bones (scaphoid, lunate, and triquetrum).
  • Ulnocarpal joint: This joint connects the ulna, the other forearm bone, with the lunate and triquetrum wrist bones.
  • Intercarpal joints: These are the joints between the eight carpal bones in the wrist.

These joints work together to allow the wrist to move in multiple directions, including flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, and circumduction.
