Enabling SMS authentication in Docusign enhances the security of your account by adding an extra layer of verification to your login process. This feature, commonly known as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or two-step verification, ensures that even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without the verification code sent to your registered mobile device.

To set up SMS as your Two-Factor Authentication method for your Docusign account, follow these general steps:

1. Log In to Your Docusign Account

Begin by accessing your Docusign account:

  • Go to the Docusign login page.
  • Enter your email address and password into the respective fields.
  • Click the "Log In" button.

2. Navigate to Security Settings

Once you are logged into your account:

  • Click on your profile picture or initials usually located in the top-right corner of the Docusign interface.
  • From the dropdown menu, select "My Preferences" or "Settings."
  • On the preferences page, look for a section titled "Security," "Login & Security," or "Two-Step Verification." This is where you manage your account's authentication methods.

3. Configure SMS Verification

Within the security settings:

  • Locate the option to "Add a Phone" or "Enable SMS Verification" for two-step verification.
  • You will be prompted to enter your mobile phone number. Ensure this is a number you have regular access to, as verification codes will be sent here.
  • Docusign will then send a verification code via text message to the number you provided.
  • Enter this code back into the Docusign prompt to confirm and link your mobile number to your account for authentication.

4. Save Your Changes

  • After successfully verifying your phone number, make sure to save any changes to activate SMS authentication for your account.

How SMS Authentication Works During Login

Once SMS authentication is enabled, your Docusign login process will include an additional step to verify your identity:

  1. Access the Docusign login page.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. You will then be prompted to choose how to receive your verification code.
  4. Select "Text Message" to have a one-time code sent to your registered mobile device.
  5. Enter the verification code from the text message into the Docusign login screen to complete your login securely.
