How to Trigger Hyperbloom or Burgeon?

Published in Elemental Reactions 4 mins read

Hyperbloom and Burgeon are powerful Dendro-based elemental reactions triggered by applying specific elements to a Dendro Core, which is formed when the Dendro and Hydro elements react.

Understanding Dendro Cores (The Prerequisite)

Before you can trigger Hyperbloom or Burgeon, you first need to create Dendro Cores. This is achieved through the elemental reaction Bloom:

  • Bloom: Apply Dendro to a target affected by Hydro, or vice-versa. This will generate one or more Dendro Cores on the ground. These cores are unstable and will explode after a short duration, dealing AoE Dendro damage.

Once Dendro Cores are present, they can be further reacted with to trigger Hyperbloom or Burgeon.

Triggering Hyperbloom

To trigger Hyperbloom, you must apply Electro to a Dendro Core.

  • When an Electro attack hits a Dendro Core, the core transforms into a homing projectile that seeks out the nearest enemy and explodes, dealing single-target Dendro damage.
  • The damage dealt by Hyperbloom scales with the Elemental Mastery (EM) and Character Level of the Electro character who applied the Electro element to the Dendro Core. This means the character who triggers the Hyperbloom is the one whose stats determine the reaction's effectiveness.
  • Example Electro Characters: Kuki Shinobu, Raiden Shogun (specifically her skill), Fischl, Yae Miko. Any Electro character whose abilities can hit the Dendro Cores efficiently can trigger Hyperbloom.

Triggering Burgeon

To trigger Burgeon, you must apply Pyro to a Dendro Core.

  • When a Pyro attack hits a Dendro Core, the core immediately explodes in a larger Area of Effect (AoE), dealing AoE Dendro damage to enemies within its radius. This damage can also affect your own characters if they are caught in the blast, similar to the original Bloom reaction's explosion.
  • The damage dealt by Burgeon scales with the Elemental Mastery (EM) and Character Level of the Pyro character who applied the Pyro element to the Dendro Core. Just like Hyperbloom, the character who triggers the Burgeon reaction is the one whose stats determine the damage.
  • Example Pyro Characters: Thoma (especially his Burst), Dehya, Hu Tao (plunge attacks hitting cores), Yanfei (C4 shield detonation). Characters with consistent or wide-ranging Pyro application are ideal.

Key Principles for Both Reactions

Understanding these principles is crucial for effectively incorporating Hyperbloom and Burgeon into your team compositions:

  • Independent Triggering: Both Burgeon and Hyperbloom can be triggered by any party member who applies the correct element (Pyro or Electro, respectively), regardless of which character created the initial Dendro Cores. This also includes environmental effects that apply Pyro or Electro.
  • Damage Scaling: The damage of both reactions is solely dependent on the Elemental Mastery and Character Level of the specific character who applies the final triggering element (Pyro for Burgeon, Electro for Hyperbloom). Other characters' stats in the party do not directly influence the reaction damage itself.
  • Element Application Order: The sequence is always Dendro + Hydro (to create the core), then Pyro or Electro (to trigger the reaction).
  • AoE Nature: While Hyperbloom targets a single enemy, its explosion still deals damage in a small area. Burgeon, on the other hand, is a more pronounced AoE explosion.

Strategic Considerations

Optimizing your team for Hyperbloom or Burgeon involves focusing on the right stats for your trigger character and ensuring consistent Dendro Core generation.

Reaction Required Elements Triggering Element Primary Damage Stat (Triggering Character) Target Damage Potential Self-Damage
Hyperbloom Dendro + Hydro (for Core), then Electro Electro Elemental Mastery, Level Single-Target No
Burgeon Dendro + Hydro (for Core), then Pyro Pyro Elemental Mastery, Level AoE Yes
  • Prioritize Elemental Mastery: For your dedicated Hyperbloom (Electro) or Burgeon (Pyro) trigger character, stack as much Elemental Mastery as possible. This is the primary stat for maximizing their reaction damage.
  • Character Level: Leveling up your trigger character to Level 90 significantly increases the base damage of these transformative reactions, making it a highly cost-effective investment.
  • Consistent Core Generation: Ensure your team has sufficient Dendro and Hydro application to continuously produce Dendro Cores for your trigger character to react with.
  • Safety (for Burgeon): As Burgeon deals AoE damage that can affect your own active character, consider bringing a shielder or healer if using Burgeon, especially against multiple enemies.
