Amethyst is a variety of quartz known for its beautiful purple coloration. The intensity of the purple can range from a light, almost lavender hue to a deep, rich violet. While purple is the defining color, you might also find amethyst with reddish-purple or bluish-purple undertones. Some specimens can even exhibit color zoning, where bands or patches of different purple intensities occur within the same stone, or even alternate with white or grayish areas.
