Hideki Matsuyama switched caddies because his regular caddie and coach were unable to travel with him due to their passports and visas being stolen.
This unfortunate incident occurred following Matsuyama's participation in the Olympics in Paris, where he earned a bronze medal. The theft of his caddie's and coach's travel documents necessitated a change, as they could not accompany him to subsequent events. Adding to the string of bad luck, Matsuyama himself experienced a separate incident where his wallet was stolen during a layover in London. Consequently, a temporary caddie was needed to fill in due to the absence of his primary caddie.
