Published in LibreOffice Formatting 3 mins read

Vertically centering content in LibreOffice is a straightforward process, applicable to various elements like paragraphs, frames, table cells, or even the content of an entire page.

Centering Text Vertically Within Paragraphs or Frames

This method allows you to align text vertically within the confines of a paragraph, a text frame, or a section, ensuring it sits in the middle of the available vertical space.

For Paragraphs or Sections

To vertically center specific paragraphs or sections of text:

  1. Select the Text: Highlight the paragraph(s) or section of text you wish to center.
  2. Access Paragraph Properties: Go to the menu bar and select Format > Paragraph, or right-click on the selected text and choose Paragraph....
  3. Navigate to Text Flow: In the Paragraph dialog box, select the Text Flow tab.
  4. Choose Vertical Alignment: Under the Alignment section, find Vertical alignment. From the dropdown menu, choose "Centered".
  5. Apply Changes: Click OK to apply the vertical centering to your selected text.

For Text Frames or Text Boxes

If you're working with text inside a dedicated frame or text box, the process is very similar:

  1. Select the Frame: Click on the border of the text frame or text box to select it.
  2. Access Frame Properties: Go to Format > Frame and Object > Properties, or right-click on the frame's border and select Properties....
  3. Navigate to Text Flow: In the Frame dialog, go to the Text Flow tab.
  4. Choose Vertical Alignment: Under the Alignment options, locate Vertical alignment and set it to "Centered".
  5. Apply Changes: Click OK.

Centering an Entire Page's Content Vertically

If you want to center all content on a specific page vertically, often used for title pages or single-page documents, you'll adjust the page style.

  1. Open Page Style: Go to Format > Page Style... from the menu bar.
  2. Select the Page Tab: In the Page Style dialog, click on the Page tab.
  3. Adjust Layout Settings: Under the Layout settings section, find the Vertical alignment dropdown menu.
  4. Choose Centered: Select "Centered" from the options.
  5. Apply Changes: Click OK. This will center all content on pages using this page style vertically.

Centering Text Vertically Within Table Cells

To vertically align text within one or more cells of a table in LibreOffice Writer:

  1. Select Cells: Highlight the table cell(s) where you want to center the text.
  2. Access Cell Properties: Right-click on the selected cell(s) and choose Cell > Properties....
  3. Navigate to Text Flow: In the Table Cell Properties dialog, click on the Text Flow tab.
  4. Choose Vertical Alignment: Under the Alignment section, locate the Vertical alignment option and set it to "Centered".
  5. Apply Changes: Click OK.
