Where do vex spawn?

Published in Minecraft Mobs 2 mins read

Vexes primarily spawn in Minecraft as part of a summoning attack performed by an Evoker. They do not naturally spawn in the world on their own.

The Role of Evokers in Vex Spawning

Evokers are a type of illager mob known for their magical abilities, including the power to summon hostile creatures. When an Evoker is engaged in combat, it can initiate a summoning attack to bring forth Vexes to aid it.

During this summoning process:

  • The Evoker will be surrounded by white particles.
  • It makes a distinct, magical, horn-like sound.
  • Immediately after, a group of three vexes appears near the Evoker, ready to attack.

This unique spawning mechanism means that encountering Vexes is directly tied to finding and engaging with Evokers.

Locations Where Evokers (and thus Vexes) Are Found

Since Vexes are exclusively summoned by Evokers, understanding where Evokers spawn is key to finding Vexes. Evokers are rare hostile mobs found in specific structures and events:

  • Woodland Mansions: These enormous, rare structures found in dark forest biomes are primary strongholds for Evokers. Multiple Evokers can be found roaming within the mansion's many rooms. Exploring a Woodland Mansion is the most reliable way to encounter Evokers and, consequently, Vexes.
  • Raids: Evokers can also appear as part of illager raids on villages. They are typically found in later waves of a raid, especially during the final waves of a successful raid. Participating in and defending a village during a raid provides another opportunity to face Evokers and their summoned Vexes.

Understanding Vex Behavior

Once summoned, Vexes are highly aggressive flying hostile mobs. They are known for their unique abilities, which make them particularly challenging:

  • Flight: Vexes can fly freely, making them difficult to hit with melee attacks.
  • Phasing: They have the ability to phase through blocks, allowing them to bypass defenses and attack players even behind walls.
  • Weaponry: Vexes attack using an iron axe, dealing significant damage.
  • Lifespan: Unlike most mobs, Vexes have a limited lifespan and will despawn naturally after a certain period if they do not manage to attack a player, unless the Evoker that summoned them is killed first.

In summary, to encounter Vexes, you must seek out Evokers in their natural habitats within Woodland Mansions or during village raids.
