What does P+ mean in Osrs?

Published in OSRS Combat Status Effects 3 mins read

In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), "P+" is a suffix added to the name of a weapon or type of ammunition to indicate that it has been treated with weapon poison(+), making it capable of inflicting a stronger form of poison damage on opponents.

Understanding P+ in OSRS

The "P+" suffix, typically appearing as (p+) in an item's name (e.g., "Rune arrow (p+)"), signifies that the item has been coated with a powerful venom. When a player successfully hits an enemy with a P+ item, there is a chance to apply a poison effect, which causes continuous damage over time. This distinguishes it from items that inflict standard poison (marked with "p") or super poison (marked with "p++"), as weapon poison(+) provides a higher initial damage output than the regular variant.

This designation allows players to quickly identify which of their combat items are capable of inflicting this advantageous damage-over-time effect, which is useful in many combat scenarios, including facing high-health monsters or engaging in Player-vs-Player (PvP) combat.

Items That Can Be Poisoned with P+

A variety of common combat equipment in OSRS can be enhanced with weapon poison(+). These items are primarily metal-based projectile ammunition and certain melee weapons.

Category Examples of Items Compatible with Weapon Poison(+)
Arrows All metal arrows (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon, Amethyst)
Bolts Normal metal bolts (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Broad bolts)
Darts All types of darts (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon)
Throwing Knives All types of throwing knives (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon)
Daggers Most daggers (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon, Abyssal)
Spears Various spears (e.g., Bronze, Iron, Steel, Mithril, Adamant, Rune, Dragon)
Hastae All hastae (e.g., Zamorakian hasta, Saradomin hasta, Guthixian hasta)

Note: While a broad range of weapons can be poisoned, certain unique or special attack-focused weapons may not be compatible with weapon poison.

Applying Weapon Poison(+)

To give an item the "P+" status, you simply use a vial of Weapon poison(+) on the desired weapon or stack of ammunition. One vial of weapon poison(+) can typically poison a large stack of arrows or bolts, or a single melee weapon. After application, the item's name will instantly update to include the "(p+)" suffix, confirming its new, poisonous property.

Advantages of Using P+ Items

  • Consistent Damage Over Time: Poison provides a reliable source of damage that continues to drain an enemy's health even when you are not actively attacking, contributing to faster kills.
  • Resource Conservation: For extended trips or challenging encounters, poison can reduce the need for food, prayer, or other combat supplies by chipping away at an enemy's health.
  • Player-vs-Player (PvP) Pressure: In PvP combat, poison forces opponents to react by using antidote potions or to continuously take damage, disrupting their combat rhythm and potentially leading to a kill.
  • Bossing Effectiveness: Many boss monsters are susceptible to poison, making "P+" items valuable for increasing your overall damage per second (DPS) during boss fights.
