The Rainbow Badge is obtained by defeating Gym Leader Erika at the Celadon City Gym in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.
Obtaining the Rainbow Badge in Pokémon Red and Blue
In the classic Game Boy titles Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue, the Rainbow Badge serves as the fourth official Gym Badge you can earn on your journey. This badge is awarded after you successfully defeat Erika, the Grass-type Gym Leader of Celadon City.
To acquire this badge, follow these steps:
- Arrive in Celadon City: This vibrant city is home to its own Pokémon Gym, which you will need to locate.
- Enter the Celadon City Gym: The gym's entrance will lead you inside its unique, plant-filled interior.
- Clear the Path: To reach Gym Leader Erika, you will find a tree blocking your way. You must have a Pokémon in your party that knows HM01 Cut to remove this tree and clear the path forward.
- Challenge and Defeat Erika: Once the path is clear, engage Erika in a Pokémon battle. She specializes in Grass-type Pokémon, so preparing with Pokémon that have a type advantage (such as Fire, Flying, Poison, or Bug) will be beneficial.
Reward for Victory
Upon your successful defeat of Erika, she will acknowledge your skill by presenting you with the prestigious Rainbow Badge. Beyond being a symbol of your accomplishment, this badge also provides certain in-game effects, such as allowing you to use specific Hidden Machines (HMs) outside of battle. In addition to the badge, you will also receive TM 21 (Mega Drain), a powerful Grass-type move that drains HP from the opponent.
